Frequently Asked Questions

Navigating the ins and outs of frequent flyer rewards can be time-consuming and complicated. That’s why I created danSmiles, an innovative approach to maximizing your airline miles and travel rewards without all of the headache. Because I offer a niche service that is not readily available, I have included some frequent questions that clients typically ask:

Banks and airlines are the major players in air miles, and it doesn’t help their bottom line to maximize a consumer’s ability to use those miles for free travel – they save money when you don’t accrue or use miles. Therefore, airlines and credit card companies do not provide consumers with consultants. As an airline rewards consultant, I can serve a relatively broad segment of the population who loves to travel and wants to save money. Consumers are literally leaving billions of dollars on the table annually for missed opportunities for rewards. My goal is to help consumers close that gap. Using my proven method, I can determine the best credit cards for you to accumulate airline miles, as well as how best to use them to meet your travel goals.

My goal is to show you how to travel for free by teaching you how to generate hundreds of thousands of airline miles through strategic credit card use. I will help you understand the specifics of your credit situation and offer you a customized process for taking advantage of the many deals that banks and airlines offer. Based on your credit score, your travel wish list, and the current offers available, I’ll show you just how easy it is to travel the world for free and save thousands of dollars on domestic and international flights annually. I’ll also help you decide on the best airline credit cards for you and which cards you may want to cancel in order to maximize your benefits.

The essential factors that would qualify you being a good candidate for the danSmiles program and capturing free flights include:

1) Having a credit score of 700 or above: www.creditkarma.com

2) Paying off your full credit card bill monthly (otherwise you would lose the savings on free flights by spending your potential earnings on interest payments)

3) Can spend between $3,000 and $4,000 in 3 months on a credit card

4) Not having opened more than 2 retail or major credit cards in the past 24 months

Absolutely. The danSmiles service caters to individuals as well as small businesses. In fact, you will get more bang for your buck if you hire danSmiles for multiple packages. For example, if you have a partner that you share your finances with, you will get more value by both signing up for the program as you will have double the opportunity to build miles without doubling the price. Additionally, if you have a small business, that assessment can be included discreetly or bundled with your personal cards and finances as well.

Very little time at all. It may feel overwhelming in the beginning because the information is all new, but once you have your system set up, it takes very little time to follow through and keep up. As part of my program I will provide you with a tracking sheet which will help you keep the relevant information organized.

My services are available for a one-time fee with no memberships, plans, or other obligations. Half will be paid up front immediately following the initial phone call once I confirm that you are a good candidate, with the other half paid after I have completed the research and given you your customized plan. This online meeting typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. (If you live in Boulder, I am happy to meet in person).

Currently, my rate is $595.00 for individuals, $795.00 for couples and $895.00 for small businesses. I offer a hefty discount when clients request a combined assessment of their personal and business cards (please inquire). Fees for all of the above include a maximum of assessing six credit cards (9 for couples) which includes both major and retail cards.

Every additional card will cost $50.00. I also offer follow-up consultations at $5.00 USD per minute at a minimum of 15 minutes in case you need any further help down the road.

If you would like to take a look at some hard numbers, click here to view testimonials from some of my clients. However, to give you an idea, a couple with no new cards and good credit could foreseeably acquire around 400,000 miles within 2 years, netting about $8,000 in travel savings. If you have a small business, just add to this number. And that is just the beginning. With the knowledge and understanding that you will gain, you can perpetuate and increase your savings indefinitely.

Of course! Unfortunately, most people just too busy or aren’t wired for navigating the complexities of credit reports, credit card guidelines, and rewards offers. I often hear from clients who are somewhat adept with these types of tasks that they thought they were doing a great job at utilizing rewards, but their common assessment after working with danSmiles is that were doing a relatively poor job. But I geek out over this stuff. I love the challenge of processing data and crunching numbers—and I love helping people enrich their lives with new and profound experiences. Moreover, the service I provide will enable you to do this on your own, even if it seems intimidating at first.

This is a great problem to have and I often see this challenge with small businesses because of their significant expenditures. This could be a scenario where you don’t necessarily need the full program, but just a small amount of consulting support (please read Eric Youngren’s testimonial) paid on the per minute basis. Please give me a call and we can determine what would be the greatest value to you for your unique situation.

It doesn’t matter. Even if you only travel one time per year you will save money with this service. And if you don’t like to travel much, you could always use your miles as a gift to have friends and family come to visit you.

Everything that I do is completely legal. Admittedly, airlines and credit card companies would rather make money off of you than treat you to free flights. Credit card companies are constantly changing their guidelines to compete with their competitors and to try to attract loyal customers, which can make flying for free quite elusive. That’s one of the reasons why having an expert by your side can be helpful. Not only do I keep abreast of changes in the industry, but I can also ensure that you are maximizing rewards within the general and specific rules that credit card and airline companies have created.

As little as possible. During our meeting we will review your credit history on an online tool which will likely include whatever debt you currently hold, including credit cards, mortgage, etc. If you need a small business assessment the consultant will need to have a relatively thorough understanding of your expenditures as some business cards offer greater rewards for certain categories.

Opening and closing credit cards to obtain rewards or for any other purpose will almost certainly impact your credit score, either positively or negatively. During our meeting I will explain the major factors that impact your credit so that you know how to maintain an excellent credit score even as you are maximizing rewards. Many clients have increased their credit score based on the knowledge they have gained from the danSmiles program. That said, you are advised that this program may not be appropriate for you if you intend to make any major purchases (e.g. house, refinance, etc.) on credit in the foreseeable future since your credit score may be affected by the danSmiles program, and the interest rate you pay may be affected by your credit score.

With a simple phone call (303) 641-2023 or email dan@dansmiles.net. Once we determine your eligibility, I’ll send you an email with a link to gather some information in order for me to provide a customized assessment for your greatest benefit. The rest of the work is on me. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you would like to get started on earning your miles and finding the best flight deals available, please give me a call.
